MISSION
The mission of SAFE is to provide our clients and their families with counseling, and support in dealing with addiction; and to educate all members of our community on the dangers of addiction and its prevention.
OUR HISTORY
SAFE was created in 2003 to assist and help those within the Brooklyn Midwood community experiencing the difficulties with drug addiction, alcoholism and compulsive gambling in a confidential outpatient setting.
PROGRAMS & SERVICES
SAFE OUTPATIENT DRUG, ALCOHOL AND GAMBLING TREATMENT MODEL
SAFE is a New York State licensed drug, alcohol and gambling outpatient treatment program located in Brooklyn, NY. SAFE provides high quality treatment for those who are clinically appropriate for that level of care. Pre admission interviews and screening with a SAFE professional will help determine if the outpatient program is a suitable option. Candidates for SAFE’s outpatient treatment programs are those who do not require medically supervised detoxification or stabilization; have stable mental and physical health; have had few if any prior treatment experiences; and have a supportive home and work environment.
Patients will receive psychological, social and alcohol and drug assessments and an individualized treatment plan as well as continuing care recommendations. Therapeutic techniques include lectures, group therapy, one-to-one counseling, Twelve Step meetings, spirituality work and peer interaction.
Because we believe chemical dependency affects the entire family, family involvement is rigorously encouraged. Treatment at SAFE is provided by a multi-disciplinary team, seamlessly coordinating medical, behavioral, alternative and twelve-step modalities in a dignified recovery environment. We are always sensitive to our clients’ special circumstances and responsive to their needs and concerns. Confidentiality is carefully maintained and privacy is always respected. Our earliest objective is to build a trusting relationship. SAFE is a supportive environment that promotes program participation and cultivates a positive attitude toward recovery.
THE FIRST STEP
For many clients, contact with the SAFE is the first contact they have with a treatment provider. The treatment process usually begins with a call from a potential client, family member, employer or school.
An initial assessment of the client’s status will be conducted by either a certified or master’s level addiction counselor or a licensed social worker. Treatment needs are then established and an appropriate recommendation is made. If detoxification is indicated, an outpatient detoxification schedule will be started or client will be referred for inpatient treatment, if necessary.
SAFE’s staff consists of certified addictions counselors, master’s level addiction counselors and mental health professionals to meet our patients’ needs.

Jewish International Connection
JICNY is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization founded in December 2000 by Steve Eisenberg and Jodi & Gavin Samuels.
Jewish International Connection of New York fosters Jewish identity among young internationals, in their 20s and 30s, through diverse and inspiring Jewish experiences together with NYC Jews.
In December 2000 we had our first Shabbat dinner for Australians and South Africans living in the New York. From this event our community has grown to over 8,000 people over the past ten years and 94 couples met through JICNY. With an emphasis on high-quality programming and wide scale affiliation, JICNY is a United Nations of sorts, with people from all over the world gathering on a regular basis for social, cultural and religious events.
Programs include a highly successful weekly Torah class, led by Steve Eisenberg on the Upper West Side, followed by a Jewish history series and unique Torah classes, held in multiple languages which typically include English, Spanish, French and Russian.
Other JICNY events include: lectures, walking tours of Jewish neighborhoods, bi-weekly networking events, Israel advocacy program and couples events. We host a film club that raises money each month for a different charity. We also plan an annual learning mission to Israel that has enjoyed great success. In 2012 we had over 10,000 people attend over 200 events.
Our monthly Shabbat dinners feature guest speakers from around the world. We have less formal Shabbat meals and social events throughout the month, as well. Founder, Steve Eisenberg sets hundreds of young professionals up with welcoming places to have the Shabbat meal every year. Over the years founders, Gavin and Jodi Samuels have had over 10,000 people attend meals in their home. We recognize the interest and value of the Jewish international community in New York through all of our successes and for this reason we have created the JICNY Networking Group in order to expand on what we have previously been able to offer in the way of networking.
Living in a foreign country that is so diverse and independent, it is comforting to know that there is a place you can go where you will always be welcome; you will be able to explore your heritage and spirituality; and you will be supported by the community that surrounds you.
We are an educational organization created to support an undivided Israel.
AFSI was founded in 1970 as an American counterpart to the Land of Israel Movement, asserting Israel’s historic, religious, and legal rights to the land re-gained in the 1967 war. AFSI has argued consistently that a strong, territorially defensible Israel is essential to U.S. and global security interests in the region, and that the “two-state solution,” would endanger the world, while bringing the dissolution of Israel.
We are a national organization with chapters throughout the country and members throughout the world. All are dedicated to the premise that a strong Israel is essential to Western interests in the Middle East, and that the Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and the Golan are the best guarantee against strategic vulnerability, as were the Gush Katif communities.
AFSI supports a policy of “peace for peace” between the Arab states and Israel, and rejects “peace for territory.” AFSI opposes spending U.S. tax dollars, estimated to be in the billions, to fund a phantom “peace” plan.
Send a message to the detractors of Israel in the media, the Administration, and the public by joining AFSI and becoming active in your community chapter.
Every hospital in Israel is committed to defending the health of Israel. But in so many ways, Soroka Medical Center is not like other hospitals in Israel. It is the only major medical center in the entire southern half of Israel, the Negev, and is responsible for the care of over a million people, including 400,000 children and youth. Known for its premier medical care and dedicated staff, Soroka treats a profoundly diverse society which includes Jews of all nationalities and backgrounds, Arabs, Bedouins and refugees. With nearly 250,000 patients a year, Soroka is by far the busiest Emergency Room in all of Israel.
Soroka’s close proximity to the Gaza Strip also makes it a strategic “front line” hospital, responding to trauma patients from the Israel Defense Forces. Soroka’s staff treated hundreds of injured soldiers and civilians during the 2009 Gaza war, and Soroka continues to treat the injured during terror attacks in Israel’s South, and after Qassam missile attacks from Gaza.
We are also specialists in the treatment of children. The state of the art Saban Pediatric Center ensures top-quality care for sick kids, in a holistic, familial environment. Our Women’s Health Clinic works towards breast health and treatment of women’s cancers and diseases. And our world-class Trauma Center helps young and old to recovery – both physically and psychologically – to recover from traumatic events.
We invite you to read all about our programs and our newest innovations and to learn about how you can partner with Soroka to support the people of Israel, and help Soroka to continue to be one of Israel’s most strategic assets.
