‘Expedition Love in the Sukkah’ Designed to Help Jews Worldwide Find Romance During COVID-19
Moishe House, the international leader of peer-led engagement for Jews in their 20s and 30s, has opened registration for Expedition Love in the Sukkah, a free, immersive, digital experience designed especially for single, Jewish adults ages 21-39. Taking place during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, from Sunday, October 4 through Friday, October 9, Expedition will harness the festival holiday’s themes of hospitality, openness, and harvest celebration, and match participants to a new partner every day to complete challenges to earn points, win prizes and maybe even meet their match.
With the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacting the way its primarily in-person gatherings serve local communities of Jewish young professionals, Moishe House pivoted to innovative new models for virtual experiences reflecting the current reality. Camp Nai Nai Nai, Moishe House’s own Jewish summer camp for adults, moved online this year with Expedition Nai and Expedition For a Cause digital immersion challenges, engaging over 1,000 participants in over 180 cities around the world. Now, Moishe House is applying the lessons learned to Expedition Love in the Sukkah.
“It’s been more than six months into social distancing due to COVID-19, putting a strain on everyone’s relationships and social lives. For singles, the pandemic has made it even harder to date,” said Lisa Klig, Director at Camp Nai Nai Nai. “We’re excited to give singles a fun alternative to the overwhelming online dating scene through Expedition Love in the Sukkah, and help everyone feel a little less isolated.”
Moishe House is partnering on this venture with Corona Crush, a global Facebook community created at the beginning of lockdown to help match young Jewish singles during the quarantine. Corona Crush is now the virtual dating hub for over 16,000 community members around the world.
Like this year’s previous Moishe House expeditions, Expedition Love in the Sukkah will “gather round” the virtual flagpole on Sunday, October 4. Starting on Monday, October 5, participants will be matched with a partner and given three challenges to complete together that day. At the end of the day, pairs will be asked to log in and submit their challenges for chances to win prizes and earn points. During this process, participants will each be asked whether they wish to move forward with their current partner or be given a new match. If either partner opts to be rematched, they’ll both be re-assigned. The week will conclude with a live finale event on Sunday, October 18, when all participants will gather for celebrations, awards, and prizes, including the announcement of two lucky winners of a $1,000 cash prize.
Registration for Expedition Love in the Sukkah is currently open and will run through Wednesday, Sept. 30. To learn more or to register for the free event, visit https://www.expeditionnai.com/expedition-love/.
