Back by popular demand, Shlomo returns again! Coming to the Actors Temple Theatre (previews Nov. 28, opening Dec. 14), SOUL DOCTOR tells the fascinating story of Shlomo Carlebach, the father of popular Jewish music, and his unlikely friendship with legendary jazz singer Nina Simone. A modern-day troubadour, Shlomo bridged the gap between traditional faith and the ‘60’s “free love” era as a “Rock Star Rabbi”, performing live with folk music icons Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Jerry Garcia, Pete Seeger, and the Grateful Dead.  Fifty years later, his uplifting music and message continues to be as relevant as the era it helped define.

Jewish pop sensation Josh Nelson will star as Shlomo Carlebach, bringing his diverse heritage of rock, jazz and world music to the title role.  Broadway veteran and rising star Dan’yelle Williamson (Wicked, Rocky and Memphis) will play the pivotal character Nina Simone.
