Yitzy Friedman Bike4Chai Campaign 2013
I am currently short of my goal of collecting $5,000 to sponsor 4 children suffering from cancer for Camp Simcha this summer. To help raise the necessary funds, on I plan to bike 175 miles to the extraordinary Camp Simcha – a trek stretching from the Jersey Shore to Glen Spey, NY. In order to donate towards this amazing cause you can click on the link below donate. It should be a segula for great things for you and your entire family.
Steve Yitzy Friedman
Chai Lifeline was founded in 1987 to bring joy to seriously ill children’s lives and hope to their families. Camp Simcha, in its initial program, brought 8 children together for an incredible vacation from illness. Today Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special, give over 400 sick children and teens a summer filled with love and activities that leaves them with the confidence and resilience they need to fight their illnesses for another year. In addition to camp, Chai Lifeline offers children, their families, and their communities two dozen year-round, free programs and services that enable them to face the crises, treatment and long-term impact of illness.
Four years ago, Dovid Egert, a devoted Chai Lifeline volunteer- determined to raise money for the ill children of Chai Lifeline- raised $10,000 in sponsorships for biking 135 miles from his home in Lakewood, NJ to Camp Simcha in Glen Spey, NY. His long, grueling bike ride enabled seriously ill children to attend Camp Simcha that summer and upon arrival, sparked much excitement amongst the campers. The next year, the lone rider was joined by 39 others and thus, Bike4Chai was born.
Bike4Chai, now in its fourth year, is a 2 day, 175 mile bike ride in which approximately 300 avid cyclists will participate to raise money for the children of Chai Lifeline. The bikers will depart from the Jersey Shore on July 31st and arrive at the gates of Camp Simcha on August 1st, during the Camp Simcha Special session. While the destination always remains the same, each year the route is changed to continue challenging our riders and enhance the experience. The route for this year is still in the process of being finalized, and promises to include scenic roads throughout Northern New Jersey and Upstate New York.
If not for Camp Simcha, it would be impossible for the children of Chai Lifeline to enjoy a summer camp experience. Camp Simcha is an amazing overnight summer camp designed to meet the medical and social needs of children and teens with cancer and other serious illnesses. They do everything their healthy peers do – and more. Helicopter & motorcycle rides, incredible concerts and interactive shows, and days jam-packed with activity give them the sense of normalcy missing in their everyday lives. The friendships and memories of camp life help them through the pain, isolation, and loneliness of illness and give them the courage to keep fighting the devastating effects of life-threatening illness or serious chronic and genetic conditions.
